Pale Male and Lola....

My "cause".... and the latest updates about it.

New York High-Rise Hawks Have Egg in Nest

By RICHARD PYLE, Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK - New York's high-rise hawks are expecting an addition to the family.

Pale Male and his mate, Lola, who live on the ledge of a Fifth Avenue apartment building overlooking Central Park, have at least one egg in their nest, according to the Pale Male.com Web site run by Lincoln Karim, a video engineer with Associated Press Television News who devotes most of his spare time to monitoring the birds.

In December, the board of the co-op apartment building, whose tenants include actress Mary Tyler Moore and CNN anchor Paula Zahn, removed the hawks' huge nest on a 12th-story ledge, calling it a hazard.

The board later bowed to public outrage and pressure from the city and environmentalists, and restored a row of anti-pigeon spikes that the hawks had used to anchor their nest. Pale Male and Lola immediately rebuilt their nest.

The male hawk has sired 23 chicks with four mates since he first set up housekeeping at 927 Fifth Ave. in 1993.

Volunteers use the Web site to record every detail of the hawks' lives.

"Lola appears to be turning the eggs every half hour or so. Pale Male had two sittings today between noon and sunset," said an entry posted Sunday.

Sad Addendum...

Tonight, around 7:30 pm, my mother called me and told me that my old dog was sick. My dog -- Jessie, a golden-retriever-mix, was about to turn 18 yrs old in Aug. Anyway, to make a long story short, Jessie had a seizure/stroke of some kind and couldn't stand up this evening. We took her to the all-night Emergency Animal Clinic and they had to euthanize her.

I've been bawling my eyes out since I had to take her in. I loved that dog. She is a big part of my life and my childhood and I'll miss that so much. She was even the reason my husband and I met... long story I'll share at another time -- but that's so cute. She was a bridge to my past, to those that have passed away (my grandfather, my brother, my other golden retriever Buffy) and now she's gone. I know it was for the best.. but still, it breaks my heart.

I love you, Jessie. Run free, girl.

March.... blows in like a lion, right?

I can't remember what blows in like a lion and leaves like a lamb, but that's what I remember from elementary school. (Thanks, folks, for that secondary education! Sure has come in handy!) ...woot!

Anyway, I'm not going to post a lot of my stressors here b/c I know the ppl who may actually read it *ARE* the main stressors. Just suffice it to say, me ain't been too happy a camper as of late with the ol' 9 to 5'er.

On a completely unrelated issue, I've found a new addiction that's kept me busy for far too many late-nights. It's an online game (similar to EverQuest) but it's called World of Warcraft. I won the silly game in a sweepstakes for the DH, but then I would watch over his shoulder and say "Oooooo~ that looks neat! Lemme play! Lemme fish! Lemme duel! Lemme...lemme...LEMME!!!" So he had to break down and go purchase the game for moi. Now we play all the (free) time we have and it's oodles of fun.

Nope. Haven't written one word. Don't care either. Have no desire to write at the moment and am just taking it easy, cheesy.

So there ya have it. What's been keeping me away from my throngs of fans... hehehe... or is that my fans in thongs? EEEK!!!

Oh and here's something too cute that I stole from my blogger friend Gina (*waving at Gina* Danke!!)

I am a d12

Take the quiz at dicepool.com

You are the rare, the overlooked, yet incredibly useful dodecahedron: the d12. You are a creative, romantic soul. You often act without thinking, but make up for your lack of plans with plenty of heart. You easily solve problems that stump others, but your answers tend to put you into even deeper trouble. You write long, detailed backgrounds for all your characters, and are most likely to dress up as one or get involved in cos-play. You can be silly at times and are easily distracted by your own day dreams, but are at the end of the day you're someone who can be depended on.
